The Hobbit: Free iPhone and iPad Strategy Game

The elves are working overtime for 2013.

Yes, they are. I would say that they took a break to enjoy the holidays, and came right back up just before the New Year to continue on the promised 12 articles for this season.

While we promised this, we would like to write an article about the iPhone version of the strategy game of The Hobbit. I am happy to say that I actually went to the cinema at midnight at this part of the world just to watch the premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey last December 11, 2012. In the future, when I look back, I can say that I watched the premiere of The Hobbit on 12/12/12. I particularly love the scene where the dwarves start singing Misty Mountains. We never bothered for a review because no good words will be capable of describing this film except for the fact that everything you have hoped for in a JRR Tolkien masterpiece, is there. Peter Jackson never fails. Watching "The Hobbit" would be quite a reality you would want to last forever, especially if one watches it in 3D. For a sneak on the song that I like very much, a video of it is found below for viewing, from TheOneRing.net:

The Hobbit: Misty Mountains

Movie aside, we have, of course, downloaded THE iPhone free game of The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-Earth.

This game was created by Kabam. Inc., company responsible for other online games such as Legend Four, Rise of The Warriors, Kingdoms of Camelot, Edgeworld, Wartune, The Godfather: Five Families, and much more.

The Hobbit
Developers: Kabam

Promo Price: FREE

Some Features of this middle-earth action-packed multiplayer strategy game:
  • Players to battle or team with all over the world.
  • Alliances with other leaders can be forged!
  • Rid the land of goblins and build training facilities for it.
  • Enemies will definitely be conquered, across Middle Earth.
  • Receive daily tokens from Gollum and win prizes!

First, you have to choose which side you will be first: the Elves or the Dwarves. I chose Elves and I had Legolas to protect me for 7 days, as a beginner.

Missions are different, but generally the same. Build, train, and conquer! Receive free Mithril when you sign up for a Kabam account. You can use Mithril to help build up your kingdom.

Important thing is to rebuild the population and defend yourself against possible enemies, like any strategy game.

The basic idea is good, and the GUI definitely works. Although, for people using only an iPhone, usability is poor. Everything is slow and the iPhone screen is not suitable for this kind of game at all since there is a lot of things to keep track of. We would advise for you to actually use an iPad instead. Using an iPhone will definitely take out the fun of playing this game.

One of the best parts is Gollum's Token as Daily Free Play. I received 20,000 stone I was able to use for my supplies.

Aside from this article, there are six other sites who were able to write reviews or something about The Hobbit. You can click on them through the following links:

If you want to try this game out yourself, click The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-Earth for more information on downloading the game. Hurry now and don't miss out on this free game!

Leave us a comment and tell us what you think of this game! :) And if you liked this article, follow us on Twitter and Facebook for updates on free iPhone apps and other digital deals before they expire.

Tick-Tock Till Christmas!

Monday, December 17, 2012

Being busy with work, I realized I have lost track of what date it is today. Again. With Christmas just around the corner, I decided to just look for a clock that would have a countdown to Christmas instead of the usual boring way of figuring out what date it is by looking at the calendar.

So, here it is. See how near Christmas is!

Free iPhone Photo-Editing Apps for The Holiday Cheer

Saturday, December 15, 2012

11 Free Mobile Photo Editor Apps + 1!

Christmas is often a time where people actually dress up for gatherings and want their pictures taken with family and friends while celebrating it. When we take pictures nowadays, we usually upload it as soon as it gets saved on our phones. Most often, people would want to have them edited first.

The first one I tried using for editing with my phone was LemeLeme. The effects were definitely cool, but there would always be a problem uploading to social networking sites.

Eventually, I ended up using Instagram last year because of its preset picture effects and easy connection to networking sites. I am proud to say that I was one of the earliest to have ever made an account there, and got it to connect to Facebook.

The only problem was only one picture could be uploaded at a time. After several months of using Instagram and uploading only one picture at a time without the option of grouping these pictures into an album, some opted to put several pictures together on their computers, download back to their phones, then upload to Facebook.

The quickest way, however is downloading an app, or several apps (whichever you would prefer) to cut or compile the pictures out for you, and import them to your favorite social network before uploading. However, some of these eleven apps do not just edit the photos for you with different effects. They even have christmas themes for you to send to family and friend, save to your phone, or upload to your favorite social network! Some of these totally free photo-editing apps for the mobile device I have come across are:

Diptic by Peak Systems: one can choose different layouts, 2 or more pictures at the least. Layouts are more than 50, adjustable, and you can choose the picture effects to your heart's desire. Effects are not preset, though. What I do is just compile the pictures there and export to Instagram. Maximum of 5 picture compilations per frame. Saves to your mobile albums, can send to email, export to  Facebook, Flickr, Posterous, Tumblr, Twitter, and Instagram. Totally free. Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later, and optimized for iPhone 5.

Photo Collage by Kai Xia: You can choose the different photo layouts you want to have, ratios are displayed at 1:1, 3:2, 4:3, and 3:4. Borders are editable from squares to a soft curve, and you can even change the patterns of the borders. A variety of picture effects, but can only upload to Facebook and Twitter, send to email, and save to photo album. Effects can be done separately for each picture. No Instagram on this one, folks. Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (third generation), iPod touch (fourth generation), iPod touch (5th generation), and iPad. Requires iOS 5.0 or later.

Instapic Frames by Vijaya Kumar Reddy Doddavala: choose from 49 layouts up to a maximum of 5 compiled pictures. Mobile ads are there, of course. Can most definitely upload directly to Instagram and tumblur, save to photo album, email, copy to clipboard. Upgrades are available to make the app ads-free.

Frame Your Life - Picture Frames by Imagination Unlimited: this one is actually cool, chose a heart-shaped layout for the  picture I have chosen. Was a bit surprised, though, because there were actually full screen mobile ads popping out while going through the app. Some of the cooler layouts you will have to purchase. Add texts and emoticons for more fun. Compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. Requires at least iOS 5.0, and optimized for iPhone 5.

Pic Stitch by Big Blue Clip LLC: One of the few ones I have tried and it pretty much does the same trick. It does take quite a bit of delay when choosing pictures, though. Took me about 4-5 times before the pictures can be loaded. Default effects are free, but the other picture effects set of Grunge, Nostalgia, and Viewfinder will have to be purchased. Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later, and optimized for iPhone 5.

Photo Collage by Huang Yao Yun: Very simple functions. Choose a cool and unconventional layout, add your pictures and effects. Does not really have the option to take photos when choosing pictures, though. Pictures are taken from your phone albums. Add text. Export to Twitter and Facebook, save to photo album, or email to friends and family. Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later.

iChristmasPhoto by B Part Studio: Choose a picture, add Christmas effects like Santa's beard and hat, or a Christmas ribbon. Change the borders or backgrounds if you want, then export! Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch, iPod touch, iPod touch, iPad, iOS 5.0.

X-mas Cards (Photo2Cards) by Vukee Lifestyle: Choose a layout with preset greetings like "Cheers 2013". Pictures can be chosen from one of your albums or one can be taken during use. Has the option to be printed as a real postcard and can be paid through Paypal, Visa, Mastercard, or American Express. Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later.

Corner My Photos - Christmas Edition HD by Från Apparatus Apps, LLC: Choose your picture from the album or take one with the camera. Mine had a problem pushing through to the next step when I chose to take a picture so I got one from my album instead. Next step is to enhance your image, add effects and stickers, fix the image orientation, and crop if needed. Mobile ads pop-up from time to time. Choose borders, and purchase the rest. Picture can be saved, sent through email, uploaded to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Flickr. Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (third generation), iPod touch (fourth generation), iPod touch (5th generation), and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later. The app is optimized for the iPhone 5.

Christmas Photo Frame by Funny Newgalaxy: Choose to take or select a photo you want to use with the Christmas photo frame in the app and save! Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.

InstaSanta - Christmas Booth by Mark Bunch: Choose a picture, then add Santa's effects like beard and hat. Click to save photos or email to friends and family. Main site is in asian, but they have a direct link to the iTunes store for downloading. Have fun!

As an addition, I would also like to add Vintage Camera. I have got to say that this app has a wicked layout, but cannot really compile pictures into one frame. Added it to this list because this app has some really nice, but simple colors. Effects are most definitely vintage-styled and can upload to Facebook and Twitter. Can send to email and has the option to delete the edited picture.

Most of the pictures used as examples are taken from different free magazines, especially those of H&M.
