iOS6: A Sorta Funny Take On It

Sunday, September 23, 2012

I never really liked Apple products as a web designer, especially when I was a student. It just did not work, and I could never properly check on websites I was developing. Sure, it was great for designing. Too bad, I was not just a designer.

Years passed by, however, and I did end up purchasing a very cool iPhone 4. Frankly, updating to the current operating system version 6 was not really much of a problem to me. No matter what others said, I personally still loved the upgrade.

Unfortunately, not a lot of people share this view.

Don't get me wrong, I still will not use Apple products as a web designer. Loving their gadgets such as the phones and music players is definitely another thing, though. I love my iPhone.

So, we are not sharing a site this time. Fun, is what we would want to spread around. Was a bit uneasy sharing this video as it was borderline hilarious, and just...well, I can't really describe it but hey, here y'all go:

Free Seamless 3D Textures

Was searching something related to 3D animation, thought I would share this to all of you. Site provides seamless textures for free. Have fun! Link is http://seamless-pixels.blogspot.se.

Use Sched To Avoid Another Netherlands Riot

Saturday, September 22, 2012

Sched for Event Organizers

As most of us know, the party that went out of hand in The Netherlands happened when a girl forgot to switch to private viewing the invitation that circulated through Facebook.

Sched is for scheduling really important occasions, used mainly by professional event organizers. It takes care of your Event Schedule, People Directory, and takes care of the integration with any Android or iOS smartphones when you download the Mobile Web App.

Session details give the invitees and participants the exact information intended only for the recipients.

We might just go out on a limb to say that when planning an event, one can never go wrong with Sched. Visit the site at http://sched.org/, and take the tour at http://sched.org/tour to know more about them.

Cat Strobe

Thursday, September 20, 2012

I was checking out this page during midnight and had my speakers a bit loud. Scared the cat out of me! Site is www.catstrobe.com.

It has music blaring on and cat meowing all over your speakers with pictures of cats changing according to the beat.

Cat Strobe

Pretty amusing, if I may say. Now, if I only know what their names are.

Cat Strobe

Please do not watch if you have a condition that can be affected by strobe lights.

Multiplayer Digital Piano

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

Oh, what great ingenuity! Somebody figured out how to play the piano with at least four other people at the same time...in different places!

Definitely digital ;)

Almost 3,000 likes on Facebook, so you definitely should check it out.

It is like a chatroom that can count how many people are in the same room, playing a tune on the same keyboard. The other cursors also show where they are from.

Here's a screenshot, but nothing beats it than experiencing the digital piano on your own. Check it out at http://www.multiplayerpiano.com/ :)

Would You Rather...?

The greatest way of fishing for a question is simply by how you ask it.

There is, however, one more way to incite interactivity.

Site is called You Rather. I suppose that is a shorter version of the original term "You would rather...", as a means of answering any question that begins with "Would you rather...this OR that?"

Would you rather live without your phone OR live without your computer, ipod, and clean clothes?

Questions changes by clicking the arrows. You can sign up with your Facebook account or with your own YouRather account.

Would you rather live without your phone OR live without your computer, ipod, and clean clothes?

Comments for each questions are found at the lower half of the screen. Don't worry, no matter how long the interaction of comments are, one does not need to go back to the top to read the question in case you forgot what it is. The question is left floating at the top of the browser once you scroll down to view all interactions.

Would you rather live without your phone OR live without your computer, ipod, and clean clothes?

Available for iOS and Android phones.

Site is at http://yourather.com/. Join in on the fun :)

Where's my cellphone?

First routine of the day changes as I would want variety. Who does not, anyway?

Browsed over to CNN, and read something about China passing the US in smartphone sales. Apparently, the Chinese want to buy better phones that they can use to receive news faster. Well, just one of the perks of having a smartphone.

I realized then that I have not checked on my phone for some time already. Looked for it and could not find it. I panicked a little. Well, if one has an iPhone 5, one would definitely want to immediately find it. Good thing I found this site, http://www.wheresmycellphone.com/. And no, my phone is not an iPhone 5. Just saying.

Just input your area code, and cellphone number!

Phone starts ringing! I just hope your phone is not on silent or that would mean an entirely new problem!

Available only in the United States of America! Maybe we should create one for every country :D

iPhone Reparation in Sweden

Tuesday, September 18, 2012

Looking at my phone and the crack on one side of it, I realized that I could always have this changed at a very cheap price, even if one lives in Sweden.

I found this site, iPhone Reparation at http://iphonereparation.se.

They have branches in Stockholm, Göteborg, and Malmö. Their services focus more on Apple products, ranging from iPad1, 2, and 3. Also included are iPhone 3G/3GS, 4/4S, iPod Touch 2G/3G, and iPod Touch 4G. They can repair your broken screen without the hassle of having to travel or make time to go to their shop to have your gadget fixed.

Payment is as low as SEK 899. Just go to their website, choose your product and pay online. They send you a confirmation number and tips on how to pack your iPhone properly to send through post. Don't forget to write the confirmation number they sent on the envelope package. They fix and send it within the day they receive so your product gets sent back in 3-4 working days.

Language is in Swedish, though. The words they used are pretty easy to understand so if you use Google Translate, it sure will hit the right translation.

Compassion Pit

Monday, September 17, 2012

If things fall a bit under the weather and you are just seeking advice or just someone to listen to your rants, quickest way to do is pick up the phone and call a friend or a family member.

Although, if you would prefer interaction through typing, even during everyday conversations with friends, a site to go to would be Compassion Pit, found at http://www.compassionpit.com/

It's like your common call-a-friend number back in the early days of colored tv, but without the party line, the busy tone, or the extra added cost. It is an alternative one can use to vent anonymously just about everything and anything.

At the home screen, one can choose to be the venter or the listener. It also says how many people are usually online. You can also choose to either be the venter if you got a problem you need consoling about, or opt to be the listener if you feel generous enough in lending an ear.

If you choose to be part of this site, chat and socket connection will be created. The site will let you know which has started.

Then, you go into a chatroom where you wait for your partner. On the screenshot below, I chose to be the venter, and I was waiting for my listener.

Other choices that you would want to do at the site are on the right side. You can report abuse if such happened.

Above is another screenshot while one waits for a partner. The setup is always one venter with a partner of one listener, and vice versa.

It states how many people in Facebook liked this page and how many people from Twitter tweeted about it.

Quote from the site is:

"This site has really given me hope. Somehow you end up talking to someone that really help you."
-Anonymous

Aren't we just glad that a site like this exists for us to keep us on our feet despite desperate times?

One Motion by Tomas Eriksson

Saturday, September 15, 2012

So I was browsing around on a lazy sunday when I came across this website, created by Tomas Eriksson. It absolutely provides you with something to do on a boring day, or even when hanging out with friends.

One Motion

When you visit http://www.onemotion.com, you can opt to play with the following eight games:

Scary Spider

Scary Spider

This part of the website makes you alter a lean, mean, spider to an almost cute and small adorable one. If that at all is possible. I personally do not like spiders BUT given the tricks provided here, it was interesting enough for me to edit the spider. You can choose amongst the settings: spider speed, spider scale, body height, body scale, walk bounce, leg thickness, leg reach, raise height, view angle, and shadow angle. Controlling the walk bounce most definitely sets the borderline from cute to just eerie! Double-click the screen to put insects on the floor to be eaten by the spider. It moves alone or can be controlled by the user. If you feel like scaring your little baby sibling, just hit full screen and force them to sit in front of the computer for a very long time, haha!

Snake Trouble

Snake Trouble

Okay, rules were simple: Eat mice to grow and get points under a given time. Tips are also included, of course. When the snake head hits any part of the body as it tries to turn, the game is over. I guess it is just irritating enough to be borderline fun when you have nothing to do on a boring Sunday. Plus the fact that hitting the body with the head is just something you want to keep trying not to do so you want to stay in the game.

Asteroids Game

Asteroids Game

Controls are easy: use the arrows to steer and thrust, space bar to shoot, and P to pause. Very simple, felt like I was a kid again playing those games we loved back in the 80's. If you are good enough to stay in the game, more life and multiple shots just for you! Needs a bit of getting used to with the controls, tho. Simple is fun, and if that is what you are looking for then here's one to try!

Tetris Game

Tetris Game

Oh, I just miss playing this game! With the android and iOS phones coming out, I have been searching for a free game that I can download from the app stores, but could not find one! Finally, tetris! It's almost nostalgic!

Sketch and Paint

Sketch and Paint

This is pretty much your basic drawing board where you can save, edit, and modify what you draw. Brush is very artistic, though. Not the typical circles where you choose just the right sizes you want to use. Very elegant strokes, and definitely free!

Drum Machine

Drum Machine

One would defnitely explore the rhythm on this one, as it says under the name when you hit the page. If you want to create your beats online the easiest way without haveing the trouble of installing anything, this is the page to go to. Drum parts are Kick 2, Snare 2, Hihat 1, Hihat 2, and Stick. Adjustable controls are volume, fx, tempo, shuffle (if you want the beats shuffled throughout the sequence). Echo fx are also controllable: factor, delay, and bounce. There is a button on the lower right side for solo playing, whichever of the drum parts you selected. There are also 3 demos on the lower left side of the drum machine so you can play them and later edit the beats through the boxes. Red means they are playing (upon click). When you click the box again and it becomes black, then it is switched off. Try out the experience of the drum machine!

DJ Turntable

DJ Turntable

If you thought the Drum Machine was fun, wait until you are able to load your own mp3 into this DJ Turntable and hit it like it is real! Controls are volume, speed, effects, cutoff, echo, and distance. You can reset all the settings and of course, start and stop the song whenever you want to.

Breakdance

Breakdance

Make this boy break his dance! You can control his jumps by pressing "G" to remove and put his gravity back on, and make his arms move left or right with the controls! Beat is definitely edgy and catchy. Compete with your friends on who can make this dancer make the hippest moves!
